The Editors’ Quote of the Day:

“But man, proud man,
Dress’d in a little brief authority,
Most ignorant of what he’s most assur’d—
His glassy essence—like an angry ape
Plays such fantastic tricks before high heaven
As makes the angels weep..” – William Shakespeare, Measure for Measure

  1. We were taught in English classes that details of Shakespeare’s life had been turned to exaggerated legend by the passage of time, that some works attributed to him may not have been his, and that no reliable drawing or painting of him had survived. Is the drawing at the head of this section a recent one? I don’t recall seeing before a portrait of Shakespeare wearing an earring.
