The Editors’ Quote of the Day:

“All the people constitute the militia – according to the Founding Fathers. Therefore every able-bodied man has a duty under the Constitution to become part of the ‘well-regulated’ militia, specifically to understand and perform well with the individual weapon currently issued to the regular establishment …. Thus one who has not qualified himself with the M16 may not be considered to be a responsible citizen.” – Col. Jeff Cooper

  1. Just a reminder, twenty-two States (or Territories) have a State Guard or Self Defense Force to act as the core around which the Unorganized Militia can coalesce when called up by the Governor.

So in addition to learning to shoot your M-16 or AR 15, you should check to see if your State has a State Guard, and if so, seriously consider joining it.

Most State Guard units train for Disaster Response missions, Strategic Communications, Search and Rescue, Medical Evacuation, Security, etc, all skills that would be useful in a disaster. Not too mention that Guardsmen are likely to be like minded patriots.

  2. Nebraska technically has one… but it has been on paper only. During the Vietnam war and WWII, this was activated as there were so many National Guard units overseas they didn’t have troops to help with domestic duties of the guard. After 1972 it was again de-activated.

I don’t know if we are part of that 22 state number, but I’d recon that most of the 22 are in paper only like NE.
