In recognition of Veteran’s Day, I must mention this article: World War II’s surviving Doolittle Raiders make final toast. — My book “How to Survive the End of the World as We Know It” is now available in a Romanian translation (“Ghid De Supravietuire“) from Editura Paralela 45 in Bucharest. I was pleased to hear that it was translated by Ioan Es. Pop. (Mr. Pop is a famous poet, translator, and academic in Romania.) So now the book is now available in seven editions: American English, British English, German, Spanish, French, Bulgarian, and Romanian. Translations to several other languages are …

I see that we’re close to logging our 60 millionth unique visit. SurvivalBlog is now averaging more than 320,000 unique visits per week. It is remarkable that we are still holding such a strong market share, even though there are now more than 50 competing blogs. Our archives are continuing to grow, and now approaching 10,000 pages if you were to print it all out. All in all, I’d say that we are doing just fine for a little niche blog. — November 10th in the United States is remembered in the United States as the “birthday” of the U.S. …

Today is the anniversary of the death of actor Steve McQueen. (Born March 24, 1930, died November 7, 1980.) His many well-publicized exploits in his tempestuous life as an actor and his enduring super “cool” persona are well known. But the end of his life was actually the most noteworthy part, even though this seldom gets much publicity outside of Christian circles: He came to Christ just weeks before he died, after he had been diagnosed with terminal mesothelioma. He died with his forefinger pointing to his key verse in his Bible: Titus 1:2. — Safecastle has launched their last …

November 6th is the 69th anniversary of the day that Al Millspaugh’s B-24 Liberator bomber was shot down over over Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, in 1944. I got to know Al at some John Birch Society chapter meetings back in the late 1970s. Hearing his stories was fascinating. He told me that during one part of the war his squadron flew black-painted B-24s that were used to parachute-drop weapons and Jedburgh-type OSS teams behind enemy lines to organize resistance. I also recall that he mentioned that one of his fellow internees at Stalag Luft I was a USAAF radio operator who soon …

Since the bidding was so strong, I threw in a lot of bonus items, plus an hour of free consulting. — Today we present a guest article by Dr. Philip J. Goscienski. I’m sure that this article will be controversial, because there are two sharply divided camps in American prepperdom regarding vaccines. It was sad to hear of the passing of ace fighter pilot Robbie Risner. For more than seven years, it was Risner who was both the senior ranking officer and the spiritual leader of the Americans imprisoned at the Hanoi Hilton. Due in large part to Risner’s leadership, the will of the American POW contingent was never broken. — October 30th is thought to be the birthday of President John Adams, in 1735. Today is the first anniversary Superstorm Sandy, which caused an estimated $50 Billion in damage and resultant lost productivity. I’m hopeful that Americans learned something about infrastructure fragility from that event, and have been stocking up, teaming up , and training up, accordingly. — This is the birthday of Vermont Garrison, a legendary fighter pilot who fought in three wars: WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was born in 1915 and died February 14, 1994, in Mountain Home, Idaho. — It is also the birthday of famed World War II cartoonist Bill Mauldin (Born 1921, died January 22, 2003.) Oh, and …

I heard some very bad news from fellow preparedness blogger Orange Jeep Dad: Our house burned down today. Knowing insurance companies, I doubt that their replacement coverage will be sufficient, especially for things like storage food and ammo.
