Readers’ Recommendations of the Week:

Sir, I have read through the movie list of recommended viewing and find it very good. However I did not see a series that I consider to be very instructive not only for post-nuclear living but general life in any SHTF scenario. Please consider viewing “Jericho: the series.” Our EMA office actually uses this series in our CERT training, as does the local Ham club. – C.Y. o o o We have been small scale animal husbandry farming and gardening for years. Letter: Book and Video Shelf

Hello HJL, I just finished reading Lewis Dartnell’s most excellent book, The Change. It has been highlighted in the blog previously, Basically the book answers this question: After teotwawki, how would one, in his terms, reboot society, from a scientific and technological viewpoint. He does an excellent job at it. I thought you and JWR might want to add this one to the book and video shelf. As a followup, I was wondering if Dartnell or anyone else already or will be putting out a “companion book” giving detailed plans by which a layman with basic skills could jury rig, …

A Book Review of “Memories of Poland…”, from TM in Arkansas

This is one of those books reviewers like because it is a good book, yet hate because it is difficult to categorize. By the author’s own admission, it is history, biography, and a treatise of her Libertarian views, so take your pick. As a prepper and scholar of 20th Century Eastern Europe, I was doubly pleased to receive a copy of this book in my mailbox. …

Scot’s Product Review: Survival Skills DVD Set Sigma 3 Survival School

I was very impressed with this $49.95 two DVD set. It was well produced and the material clearly presented. There were perhaps three times I wished for captions to identify some of the gear and once a drawing would have helped me understand a point about knife blade grinds, but those are small nits to pick out of an excellent video. It even explained and showed knots so well that I could make them, which is no small task as I am knot deprived. I am going to jump to almost the end of the two DVD’s to get a …
