Preparedness Notes for Saturday — April 11, 2020

April 11th is the birthday of John Milius, who was born in 1944. He both wrote the screenplays and directed the films Dillinger, The Wind and the Lion, Big Wednesday, Conan the Barbarian, Red Dawn, Farewell to the King, and Flight of the Intruder. He also wrote the screenplays of the first two Dirty Harry movies as well as the first draft of the screenplay for Patton (before Francis Ford Coppola turned it into a vaguely anti-war commentary laced with references to reincarnation). Milius is JWR’s favorite Hollywood writer and director, in part because he stands for everything that Hollywood doesn’t.

My prayer for all those who celebrate Passover and/or Easter:  May our nation repent of its wicked ways and renew its covenant with God. Heal our land!

May the love of Christ be with you all!

  1. Thank you for posting Celtic Worship. As we cannot gather as a Church this Sunday, this will make a wonderful addition to our “home church” service. What an inspirational rendition!

  3. Ahh. Flight of the Intruder. Kinda a cool movie because Dad served on the USS Independence CV62 in the 60’s. I was told he was a “red shirt” on flight deck…and now you know too!

Now I must go and ROCK ON!

  4. Easy to build directional antenna.

2 element direct connect yagi is easy to build. Use old rabbit ears, to make it easier and retunable. I use telescoping antennas, or
‘rabbit ears’, when available. Being a rabbit, I know how to use these. I’m all ears. This is a simple dipole that is broad banded, and has an impedance of 72 ohms, yet can be tuned resulting in a low SWR. Used with a reflecting element spaced correctly, the impedance can be adjusted to almost match 50ohms. The result is directional antenna that can be easily built, rotated, and re-positioned, so that it is horizontally polarized. The gain is reportedly 5dbi, or 3Dbd, or double the power if line loss is not considered. For maximum COMSEC (communications security), the antenna can be pointed into the hills, and target receiving station put at the edge of it ‘s footprint. The best antenna for COMSEC is a 5 element antenna. Those however require much more work to construct.
