September 23, 1800 was the birthday of William McGuffey, a college president who is best known for writing the McGuffey Readers, the first widely-used series of textbooks. It is estimated that at least 122 million copies of McGuffey Readers were sold between 1836 and 1960, placing its sales in a category with the Bible and Webster’s Dictionary.

May God have Mercy on the residents of Louisville, KY tonight.
JWR,
I think we know where the Portland protestors went now. Wasn’t D.C. That was the distraction. Fascinating to watch the tactics and organization. Notice too that the leaders all are wearing body armor that would take you and me 8-10 weeks to get…yet, they have it in abudance.
Watch it live and learn the tactics:

Re The McGuffey Readers: my great-grandfather had no formal schooling past the age of seven or eight before going into the mines, yet educated himself from the McGuffey Readers to become a mining engineer and an assistant superintendent for the Consolidated Mines. I hold an advanced degree, yet I still find the last volume challenging. As my education is a few decades old, the current downslide in the quality of public education makes me concerned for the next generations. How far in the McGuffey Readers might today’s high school graduates go?
