“I watched the movie Homestead and the two available after-movie series episodes from Angel Studios. I decided to see how the series treated the various conflicts. Canadian Prepper (YouTube) gave the movie a 9 out of 10 on “preparedness”. I would give them a 5 out of 10 (basically a flunk) solely because of the location for the retreat. The size, glamor, accessibility via road, visibility via air was the worst choice possible. This is especially true in the age of drones. The retreat was in the “line of drift” and very attractive to people looking for help. Basically, it was a target, right off the bat. All the other conflicts in the movie are good ones and will help people think through the scenarios. However, if you don’t get the Location right, the retreat will quickly be overcome and all the work they did behind the magnificent gates would be for naught. It’s a fun movie and makes you think. I will be enjoying the follow on series because there is a lot to learn. I like supporting Angel Studios because they are one of the few companies that produce Christian content of high quality.”

“Although some have tried to discredit him, Jan Karski was active in the Polish underground in WWII after the German invasion of Poland. He wrote ‘Story of the Secret State’, published in 1944. I see that it is available at ThriftBooks.com. The book details the sudden overthrow of a nation and how the leaders and citizens set up a workable societal structure under the very noses of the oppressors. There is much to be gained by reading this material, and I think you’d do well to mention it to your readers. I think its possible we may need to think this way, at some point.”

“Monday’s SurvivalBlog ran an article by Tom C. about a rope….A very nice rope, I am sure. But I would like to suggest that folks consider instead using old-fashioned laid rope (I like nylon, but polyester is good too..avoid polypropylene because it degrades very quickly in sunlight). The traditional three-lay has what to me is the decisive advantage that you can splice it, that is, join sections end-to-end with essentially no loss in strength. The lines I carry (3/8″ in my knapsack and 1/2 in the car) usually have a spliced eye on one end and a back-splice to prevent unraveling, on the other. Many of mine have a splice or more somewhere in the middle where I have repaired a break or removed a damaged section. This means that if you damage your 78-foot line in the middle, you can quickly restore a fully functional 77-foot rope, rather than being stuck with two 39s, perhaps inefficiently knotted together.”
