This weekly column features news stories and event announcements from around the American Redoubt region. (Idaho, Montana, eastern Oregon, eastern Washington, and Wyoming.) Much of the region is also more commonly known as The Inland Northwest. We also mention companies located in the American Redoubt region that are of interest to preppers and survivalists. The left-wing Vice News visits a prepper expo in Sandpoint, Idaho, and tours the region: Land of the Free: Traveling the American Redoubt. Apparently, this was filmed a couple of years ago, but Vice News just posted it on YouTube last week.

Billings, Montana Man Sentenced on Firearms Crime After Armed Patrols on Sidewalk in an Elementary School Zone. Here is a quote:
“The government alleged in court documents that in August 2023, multiple individuals observed Metcalf walking in the vicinity of Broadwater Elementary School while carrying a firearm. Metcalf was observed in multiple public areas, including walking down the sidewalk, crossing the street, and walking down a city alley, all within 1,000 feet of the elementary school. Metcalf’s residence is on Broadwater Avenue and is directly across the street from the school.
On Aug. 17, 2023, law enforcement officers spoke to Metcalf, who admitted to following cars while carrying a firearm, walking to the nearby business and escorting his mother down the street to her shop while carrying a firearm. Metcalf further told officers he patrolled daily and usually went around the block once or twice a week, but that lately he had done it several times a day. On Aug. 22, 2023, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Metcalf’s residence and seized a 20-gauge shotgun and six rounds of ammunition. The shotgun was the firearm Metcalf described as using to patrol.”
JWR’s Comments: So… This is a crime? Hypothetically placing map overlays of 1,000-foot radii around every public and private school, this law negates the right to bear arms for millions of Americans. There are many small towns where it is just about impossible to pass through a town with a loaded gun and not technically violate this unconstitutional Federal law.
