Economics & Investing For Preppers

Here are the latest news items and commentary on current economics news, market trends, stocks, investing opportunities, and the precious metals markets. We also cover hedges, derivatives, and obscura. Most of these items are from the “tangibles heavy” contrarian perspective of SurvivalBlog’s Founder and Senior Editor, JWR. Today, we look at the volatile precious metals markets. (See the Tangibles Investing section.)

Tangibles Investing:

Here is a short video showing one of my favorite antique rifles: Minute of Mae: Swiss Schmidt-Rubin 1896/11. Notably, this is a model that can safely shoot the modern high-pressure GP11 7.5×55 cartridge. I should also mention that the serial number for this model for the transition from the year 1898 to 1899 was 236,500. So if you can find one below that threshold, then you’ve found yourself a Federally-exempt antique!

Many folks are concerned about the upcoming Federal regulation of AR pistols equipped with arm braces. The easiest way to avoid the SBR  registration nonsense is to convert an AR pistol into a rifle with the requisite 16″ (or longer) barrel. Palmetto State Armory (one of our affiliate advertisers) sells a wide variety AR rifle uppers.   Here is just one example, selling for just $179.99: PSA 16″ Carbine Length 5.56 NATO 1:7 M4 Nitride Freedom barreled upper with no bolt carrier group or charging handle. To find this upper, just paste the SKU # 507819 in their search box.
