“Thanks for a very informative article: How Amazon Destroyed American Book Publishing. It came to mind that the word “Kindle” may have been intentionally chosen to describe a virtual book burning endeavor. It seems to me that electronic texts could be subtly altered over time, whereas it would be impossible with printed books. George Orwell was clearly ahead of his time.”

Dogsledder had these comments on the recent action in the global gold markets:
“I believe that the price of gold has been dropping because the Basel III [agreement] requires the banks to have less unallocated gold, and they are settling with ‘owners’ of unallocated gold. Since they do not have anywhere near enough gold to settle these accounts, they are paying off at the spot price of gold in dollars. Therefore, they are suppressing the spot price as much as possible. Løok for the price to rise dramatically in the next few months.”

“By sheer coincidence, this morning after reading SurvivalBlog, I found that my car had picked up a nail and the tire was flat. It turns out that the factory-issued lug wrench would not turn the lug nuts due to Harold’s swollen lug nut issue! It is for real. The two different materials show different thermal expansion rates and over time separate causing the wrench to be unable to grasp the nut. Fortunately, I have a traditional X-type lug wrench with multiple sizes and was able to get them off. I will seek to replace them all with single metal composition as Harold wisely suggests.”
