The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “JWR”. Our goal is to educate our readers, to help them to recognize emerging threats, and to be better prepared for both disasters and negative societal trends. You can’t mitigate a risk if you haven’t first identified a risk. Today, we look at Second Amendment Sanctuaries.

Putting Nuclear Bombers Back on Alert?

Top nuclear commander says he will push to put bombers back on alert if US gets rid of its ICBMs.  Thanks to reader Tim. J. for the link.  Tim highlighted this quote:

“What is not often recognized is that we don’t have a triad day-to-day,” Richard said. “The bombers are not available to us. We chose to take them off alert as a type of peace dividend after the Cold War. Day-to-day, what you have is basically a dyad.”

Michael Savage Warns of Civil War

Reader H.L. sent us this: Michael Savage Warns of Civil War — ‘You Should Be Very Frightened’. Here is an excerpt:

“On his latest weekly podcast, Savage discussed a broad range of issues he sees as breeding grounds for an impending civil war.

“What we are seeing is a civil war,” Savage said, before questioning if it can be stopped.

Savage then described the “assault” as emanating from all sides and the wars “raging right here at home,” including the “war against the middle class, the suburbs, and white men.”

“We are under assault from both inside and out as our government moves to consolidate its domestic power, while at the same time weakening our defenses against the growing power of our global enemies like China,” he said.

“The media and this administration’s relentless assault on our borders, language, and culture has expanded to include an assault on every one of our fundamental values and institutions.  They are out to destroy a once righteous and heroic America and replace it with a leftist government defined by immorality and greed.”

“We’ve come to a situation that may threaten our existence as a nation,” he added. “Everybody knows something is wrong.”

Salon Examines 2A Sanctuaries

A surprisingly even-handed piece over at the vaguely leftist Salon: Do pro-gun “Second Amendment sanctuaries” threaten a constitutional crisis? (But, of course, the editors chose an anti-gun graphic.) It is odd  that the author did not bring up the clear parallel to widespread State noncompliance with Federal marijuana laws. That turned into such a huge loss for the Federal government that they’ve just decided to remove the marijuana question from the new printings of the ATF Form 4473.

Western States Now Feeling Drought

H.L. also sent us this: Western US States Prepare For 1st-Ever Water Shortage Declaration; Hoover Dam Hydroelectric Generation At Risk. A quote:

“According to the Associated Press, the US Bureau of Reclamation’s 24-month projections released this week forecast that less water will flow from the Rocky Mountains through Lake Powell and Lake Mead, and into the Southwest desert regions to the Gulf of California. The two lakes are expected to suffer from water shortages that could threaten the supply of the Colorado River which farms and sprawling cities rely on.

Lake Mead is projected to fall below 1,075 feet for the first time in June 2021, the level which will trigger the shortage declaration under agreements negotiated by seven states which are reliant on Colorado River water; Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.”
