I would like to leave the solar system right about now!
Seriously it is interesting how we keep making just a little bit of progress in space. The robotic stuff is very cool with Pioneer, Voyager Mars Rover and others. And it is interesting that we finally launched Americans into space on an American rocket again just as the riots were starting up. I can think of numerous SciFi stories that feature space progress and adventures in the midst of unending wars and social unrest.
That is human history. As things get ugly in the established places, people have always managed to find new places. I tend to be one of those that believe North America was frequented by people from all over the world on a small scale for hundreds of years prior to Columbus and then finally the trickle turned into a flood.
One of the primary motivations for both the trickle and the flood was a desperate search for peace, safety, freedom and opportunity away from the ugliness of the Old World. I think eventually this will happen with space. It will take a while but so did the terrestrial migrations.

There is still time for everyone to get a gorilla costume and learn to ride a horse before those astronauts return to Earth…
I’m on it!

“Why are we doing it? Because this is the first time in human history where we really don’t have a frontier. And I think that’s essential. People have always gone to the frontier for excitement, or to pursue their dreams, or to get away from tyranny. If you don’t have a frontier, you don’t have that option. So we need to do this.”
To sum that all up-
