1. I rec’d a copy of Earth Abides for Christmas. I’ve read many survival stories, but what struck me about Earth Abides, was that after the disaster that wiped out almost all the population, the main character spent time driving around his area, looking for other survivors, getting to know them, & inviting them to move to a vacant house on his street, thus creating a small community of people who supported each other. This led to individual men & women coming together, & having children. I’d not seen this kind of creating one’s own post-disaster community in any other survival story I’ve read.
