  1. So true. Local trade in the community has many advantages. You can learn a lot about folks, their skills, what they can access, attitudes, etc. And not always is cash involved. Skills and services are sometimes traded. IMO, that’s the better transaction.

  2. Absolutely right, about how the ‘professional’ dealers, will shop early at the tables of the ‘amateur dealers’ ~> who are there to get rid of things. … The ‘professional’ dealers will offer much, much less than true value. When the ‘amateur’ asks for more money, the ‘professional’ dealers ~ act as though they should receive a ‘professional’ dealer discount. = “But, I’m a dealer!” (So What! I’m NOT Santa Claus.)

I’ve been to several flea markets as an ‘amateur’ dealer-seller. … The worst one was when I helped relatives sell belongs of a deceased relative. … My relatives were true amateurs in human nature. They were ‘securing’ most of the the money proceeds in a metal box behind the table. … I found out about the ‘metal box’ after the money was stolen. [It happened very early in the day. ~ A crime of opportunity.]
…. I had brought some smaller bills and coins for making change.. … I was ~busy selling the goods, and transferring the money into the pockets of my ~cargo pants; & NOT watching any metal money box (that I didn’t know about).
… There are thieves and sharpies at many flea markets. Extra people to watch the stuff and the money can be very helpful.

Genesis: ‘The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.’ ~ Surely, Adam was given some type of cargo pants.

  3. We enjoyed your article! The similarities we encounter only show that people are much alike across the Nation. As an example I always regarded the horde of flea market vendors that descend on a new seller as vultures on carrion and when I read your comment it brought a chuckle as you indicated the same impression. Regardless, the flea markets in our area are opportunities to find items of interest at good prices. We also find items of interest at garage sales and auctions, but with our retreat/home being located in a remote area on the Olympic Peninsula we must travel a ways to get to those events. We are always looking for new opportunities to explore for those items of interest to preppers, so if anyone has suggestions for our area we would welcome their thoughts.
