  1. Palmetto State Armory also has complete lower kits with buffer tube and Magpul adjustable stock on sale for $89.99, everything one needs to complete the lower.

    I mention this because, while the end result is not as cheap as the $279.99 “Freedom Rifle” deal, it allows using any upper at all that fits an AR-15 lower, in any caliber that runs in an AR-15 lower (6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, 300BLK, Wilson’s new 300 HAM’R, .458 SOCOM, etc.) . My preference runs to longer barrels in 5.56 (18″-20″) with full-length gas systems, which among other complete upper assemblies, go on sale at PSA from time to time, and other upper options from other sources are available as well, as assemblies and individual parts. Specifically noted is Brownell’s pre-order offering of a BRN Upper assembly, which is a complete 16″ barreled upper with the original 2-spring internal recoil management of the original AR produced by Armalite decades ago (which, BTW, is where the “AR” in AR-15 came from – it means “Armalite Rifle”) – no buffer assembly required, works just fine with the stock folded (so also start looking for LAW Tactical folding stock adapters on sale, and if the BRN becomes popular, someone will start making lowers with easy and more compact folding stock attachment).

    In any case, whether you use something like lower build kits from PSA or hardware – including specialty triggers – from other sources, I’d strongly suggest building out any stripped lowers you may have ASAP even if you don’t have uppers for them at the moment. It’s easy to “borrow” an upper from at AR-15 you already own to test the lower build, then clean, oil, vac-pack and secure until you locate the upper you want for it (I wouldn’t dilly-dally on that either, but a fully built and functional lower assembly is one 10 second snap-click away from adding an upper to make it complete).

    Oh, and magazines. PSA has those on sale, too for Ar-15s. As has been well documented elsewhere, the correct number of magazines for each of your guns is “more.” Pro Tip: Find a way to lock up your magazines just like you lock up your guns; their value is steadily increasing, and depending on politics, may take a very sudden increase.

    1. Agreed. My preferred 5.56 barrel length is also 18″-20″, with 300BLK at 10.5″. Those are the lengths those cartridges were actually designed for.

      I have a friend who has home-built almost a dozen ARs (yes, there are many here in CA exercising their rights quietly behind enemy lines, never doubt it) who finished a shorty 7.5″ 5.56 last year. Not my style, but he likes it. To each his own, I guess.

  2. I have contacted my senators regarding S42. One is fully for it and one against. You can guess which party they are in. Since we began reading Survival blog after reading The Patriots, we have left the major metropolitan city, acquired 15 acres, built our home and barn. We have stacked deep in bean, bullets and bandaids. We continue to prepare for the worst but have reach the age where acquiring more mags, more ARs will not make a difference as there is just two of us and both over 65. With no immediate family, I am sure there are many at our age that will just ignore the ban on private sales when we are no longer able to manipulate them. Hopefully we will find like minded patriots and give them to the next generation.

      We too are in the golden years. Our thoughts on this subject is we have the core equipment but we also have our 2nd Amendment IRA. It will be liquidated legally when the time comes or donated if that time is after we move on. Take care.

  5. I recently heard some Liberal pundit on TV say that there is no problem with illegal aliens in America. He claimed that only 4 percent of illegals are involved in criminal activities. So, let’s see: I recently googled the number of illegals in this country. A Yale professor-Dr.Mohammed Fazel Zarandi-estimates the number at 22.8 million. Others claim the number is less. So, 4 percent of 22.8 million is 912,000 criminals in America today. No problem? I’m with President Trump on this one. We NEED the wall!
    I would like to compare AR-15 gun owners to Illegals. It is estimated that around 15 million Americans own one or more of these fine rifles. So, using the same percentage number (.04) as used for illegal aliens commiting crimes, that number comes in at 600,000! Can anybody prove that that many of us legal gun owners are committing that many acts of mayhem in America today? It is usually one here, one there and only a handful every year. I doubt that as many as 25 AR15s have ever been used criminally! And, yet, in spite of the infenitesimal low number of abuses of these rifles, the anti-Constitution people in America want to take ALL of these great rifles from EVERYBODY in America that has one, from people who are NOT CRIMINALS!! They trusted millions of soldiers to handle these in the service, but, they will not trust them now as civilians!

    1. When the Bible was taught in the public schools there was ZERO gun control and ZERO gun incidents. When the LEFTist/Statist under their strings being pulled by the globalists, they’ve sued the Bible out of the public schools and consider Christianity/Conservative views as something to fight against for Social Justice. Now we have in the public schools, lying, cheating, illegal drugs, legally drugged students by the state, free condoms, teen pregnancy, abortion without parents notified by law, hatred towards authority, stabbings, arson, rape, gang rape, murder, shootings, mass shootings, and bombings.

      Everyone mass shooter in American history was filled to the brim of LEFTist principles–they were void of Christ’s principles in their heart. It’s not the Christians fault for these shootings, but the LEFT’s fault. Remove guns from the Statist–after all when they are in charge of governments those governmental guns seemed to be used on the We the People [Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pot Pol, Ediamin, Uganda, et al.]

  7. I was reading an article last night that purported to state President Trump was lying when he said most people in ICE detention were criminals. The liberal pundit claimed Trump was lying as ICE’s records indicated that 59% of those in detention had no criminal record. 59%. Meaning of course that 41% HAVE some sort of criminal record. Will a wall help? Maybe. But maybe we don’t need a wall. Maybe we need for all illegals to be automatically federal felons by default with no recourse to the rights and privileges afforded citizens and legalized aliens. Automatic deportation once, them death penalty if they come back- no exceptions.

IF THEY PERSIST ON RETURNING A BULLET SHOULD BE WAITING FOR THEM ENUF IS ENUF WE NEED TO TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN AND IF OTHER NATIONS WANT IN LET THEM COME IN THE LEGAL WAY !   11. Korwin’s writing raises many noteworthy observations, but the simple truth is, the Left is less complicated than he suggests. Gun control is about power and who shall have it. Nothing less, nothing more. Has nothing to do with crime stats, psycho-babble, etc. It’s about power. The Framers knew it, and saw this coming.

  12. I bought a kit from Palmetto State recently, and the gas key on the bolt carrier appeared to be inadequately staked (very light impressions on the carrier, not extending into the screwheads). As I have heard nothing but good about the company, I sent a photo and a nice e-mail, requesting their review and opinion – even offered to keep it if they judged it was appropriately staked… no answer in a week. Maybe they’re getting too busy?
