  1. Thank you for noting Jack Lucas today. I was curious about him surviving covering a grenade explosion with his body. That is almost unheard of.

    Reading his bio, I found this: “He eventually underwent 21 surgeries. For the rest of his life, there remained about 200 pieces of metal, some the size of 22 caliber bullets, in his body — which set off airport metal detectors”

    Then, friends, he enlisted in the Army, joining the 82nd Airborne Division and survived a jump when both chutes filed to deploy.

    Yikes.

    He must have had a very robust guardian angel.
