SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods. This column is a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from JWR. Our goal is to educate our readers, to help them to recognize emerging threats, and to be better prepared for both disasters and negative societal trends. You can’t mitigate a risk if you haven’t first identified a risk. In today’s column, some updates on gun confiscation schemes.

Landmark Colorado River Water Conservation Deal
H.L. sent this: What the landmark Colorado River conservation deal will require of states.
Minnesota Senate Passes Gun Control, Red Flag Laws
MSN reports: Minnesota Senate passes sweeping gun control laws, including ‘red flag law’. A quote:
“The [red flag] provision is part of a broad public safety budget bill that also contains expanded background checks for gun transfers, with opponents arguing it violates a person’s due process and the Second Amendment of the constitution.
The extension on background check requires background for private transfers, which excludes family and law enforcement, of pistols and “semi-automatic military-style assault weapons.”
Serbian Government Displays Turned-In Firearms
Another from H.L.: Serbian Government Displays Firearms Turned in During Post Mass Shooting Amnesty. JWR’s Comments: They seem so proud of the fact that they threatened their citizenry with imprisonment, to coerce this turn-in. The unspoken irony here is that all of Eastern Europe is still at eventual risk of wars and invasion. That happened repeatedly, in the last century. Meanwhile, in the Czech Republic and Poland, citizens are buying guns in huge numbers. But sadly, those are registered guns, that could be seized by an occupying power. A successful resistance army requires anonymous, unregistered guns.
States are Moving in Polar Opposite Directions on Guns
From the left-wing CNN: States are moving in polar opposite directions on guns. JWR’s Comments: We can expect to see people vote with their feet, accordingly.
Santa Clara County to Hold More Gun Buybacks
News from California: Santa Clara County to hold at least 2 annual gun buyback events. JWR’s Comments: Don’t miss this zinger buried in the article: “The events typically cost between $75,000 to $100,000 to fund county staff and law enforcement overtime and the cash incentives. The events will be funded through asset seizures from law enforcement.” So, what they are telling us is that they will be using money that they seized from the citizenry to bribe the citizenry into giving up some of their constitutionally-protected property. Then, at considerable expense, they destroy that property. The gross illogic of socialist government is astounding.

From the hard left Crosscut: With assault weapons ban, Washington enters a new era of gun reform.
