The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods:

SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods – a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL”. Since today seems to be all about food storage and/or freeze dried food, we’ll lead with that.

Freeze Dried Food in Your Luggage

Mother Earth News ran a short info-article on some of the benefits of traveling with freeze dried food in your luggage. As today’s article talked about, it gives you the ability to have healthy snacks and meals that you actually like. No more living off of restaurant or fast food. They also don’t tend to go bad on you. It’s easy and if you make your own, it’s no big deal or expense. Note that they are selling products on this page, but the information on this page is good.

More on public indoctrination education

Reader G.G. sent in this article on some public schools in the United Kingdom: Winning is banned at more than half of primary school sports days: Pupils compete in teams despite 82% of parents wanting a traditional event. Most parents (82%) want the ‘old school’ competitive sports back, but the schools are intent on raising snowflakes. Wellington famously said, “The battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton”. I wonder how Waterloo would come out if replayed now?

The local AFSCME union is suing the Western Michigan University because the school decided to use goats to maintain part of the grounds instead of people. Their claim is based around the statement that the school is using non-union goats. They failed to notify the union they were going to use the animals. A smart union would realize that it may be goats today, but tomorrow will be robots. Thanks to H.L. for the link.

South America

Socialist have virtually destroyed many of the South American countries by destroying the economy. While most are struggling under the burdens imposed by the tyranny of the government, some are finding ways to thrive. SurvivalBlog reader T.C. sent in this article showing how farmers are now using barter as a means to keep their farming equipment running and the Energy companies are expanding into agricultural trading.

The South

Sometimes you’ve just got to love the south. An Alabama construction company is offering a free “assault” rifle to anyone who uses their company to get their roof redone. I wish they didn’t use the incorrect term of “assault” to describe the AR-15, but hey…It’s the south! Some companies give you a discount, this one gives you a rifle. Rifles and shotguns are actually a time honored way of attracting business in the U.S. I like it.

Europe

Eastern Europe has chosen to keep western civilization. While Western Europe has chosen to cast Christianity aside in favor of Muslim immigrants, the Visegrad officials (Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia) have taken a stand. “ Islam is a major culture and religion, which we must respect, but Europe has a different identity, and it is clear that these two cultures are incapable of coexisting without conflict… The greatest difference is that in Europe, politics and religion have been separated from one another, but in the case of Islam it is religion that determines politics”. They get it. Thanks to K.B. for the link.

  1. “I wish they didn’t use the incorrect term of “assault” to describe the AR-15, but hey…It’s the south!” Are you implying something about the South that southern readers should be aware of? Or did you mean to say that the South is so awesome that only here would a gun be offered for a free roof?

  2. Who was it who said something about learning from history of repeating it? Is it at all strange no one has seemed to notice the Visegrad portion of Europe were the places the LAST Moslem invasions took place? Is it at all a surprise decades of their history fighting the actual invasion of Ottoman armies is something they remember? Is it also funny we don’t hear of thousands of Moslem refugees fleeing to Spain? They’re to only other portion of Europe that was under Sharia law for any length of time… Truthfully Christianity was tearing itself apart 1000 years ago (roughly) so the hatred and atrocities between Sunni and Shia are nothing new… and they seem see spreading “their faith” as a way to “beat the other side”just as the Protestants vs Catholics did which evolved to where the Christian world is today… who knows where Islam will go…
For the record there’s a statue of a man on a horse (one foot raised!) who was acclaimed “Defender of Prague” and was one of my Ancestors and one of those Irish Wild Geese. For myself, I lived and worked in the Arab Middle East for years in the 1980’s-90’s – hence my viewpoint

  3. The modern outcome at Waterloo would be Napoleon and Wellington sitting down at an awards dinner to kousa mahshi and masgouf, then handing out participation medals to all the good little soldiers for being such inclusive team players. Everybody WINS!

Us-saa-laam-muu-alie-kum waa-rah-ma-tull-laa-hee wa-bara-kaa-tu-hu, ya cheese eatin’ surrender monkeys!

  4. Some time I think I would like to move to Eastern Europe. After getting rid of the communists they seem to be some of the most sane people on the planet at the moment. And some of the land looks beautiful.

However strategically, they live in a terrible place. Historically no matter who is fighting who, they end up the loser. Tough place to be on this planet.

  5. Ah my kind of people in Alabama giving away a gun to promote their roofing company. I’m surprised they are not giving away a standard bolt action deer rifle, but I have noticed that a lot of the guys in these parts are moving over to the modular tactical rifles for hunting. I know that I have.

On Wranglerstar, I found him the other day when he posted part 1 and 2 of the bridge building series. I don’t recall what I was searching, but it came up and interested me. I added him to my favorites. I had no idea he was a favorite here as well.
