Central & Eastern Oregon

Fire crews battle 114,000-acre Cow Valley Fire amid severe weather, zero containment.  An excerpt:

“Fire Crew continue to battle the Cow Valley Fire which started on June 11 and has burned over 114,000 acres.

The Cow Valley Fire has grown rapidly through dry flashy fuels with severe weather conditions including extreme heat, high winds, and low humidity levels fulling the fire.

The Fire is to the northwest and west of Brogan and west of Highway 26 near the towns of Jamieson and Vale.

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek has invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act for the first time in 30 years, the Act mobilizes the Oregon State Fire Marshall task force units from Marion, Clatsop, Multnomah, Lane, and Umatilla counties to Malheur County.

On Saturday the fire grew to the southeast towards Bully Creek Reservoir and Cottonwood Mountain Lookout Road as fire crews completed strategic firing operations from Bully Creek Road to prevent the fire from going towards the geothermal power plant.

Crews are using both direct and indirect tactics to suppress the fire.

There are currently 195 crew members working on the fire which is zero percent contained at this time.”
