SurvivalBlog’s News From The American Redoubt

This weekly column features news stories and event announcements from around the American Redoubt region. (Idaho, Montana, eastern Oregon, eastern Washington, and Wyoming.) Much of the region is also more commonly known as The Inland Northwest. We also mention companies of interest to preppers and survivalists that are located in the American Redoubt region. Today, we focus on a charging bear incident.  (See the Montana section.)

Unearthing the ice age: Inside the Coyote Canyon mammoth dig site in Tri-Cities.  A pericope:

“…the folks at McBones’ Coyote Canyon Mammoth Dig Site are unearthing bones dating back to ice-age floods, around 15,000-18,000 years ago.

The story starts over two decades ago. The property owner was digging into the hillside and selling fill dirt. Someone called him up, and said, ‘I didn’t order any bones in my dirt.’ So, that’s the way it always happens. It’s all quite by accident. They went back, poked around, and found an upside-down jaw, which was kind of amazing. Had some unusual teeth in it.”

After the owner put out a photo of the unusual jaw, Kleinknecht says the image fell into the hands of Bax Barton, who we’re told, at the time, was a grad student at the University of Washington. Barton is now the research director on the Coyote Canyon dig.”
