This weekly Snippets column is a collection of short items: responses to posted articles, practical self-sufficiency items, how-tos, lessons learned, tips and tricks, and news items — both from readers and from SurvivalBlog’s editors. Note that we may select some long e-mails for posting as separate letters.

While editing today’s feature blog article Exiting Babylon (see Part 1 and Part 2 — up on Thursday), Lily was reminded of the book by Charles Eliot Newbold, “The Harlot Church” and wanted to share it with you. I linked to GoodReads so you can see the book cover. You can find used copies on eBay.
Lily’s Comments: The modern churches of America have been infiltrated by the godless elite and their destructive agendas. There are just too many things wrong with mainstream churches today to remain within them. We should indeed: “Come out of her, my people.” I recommend finding a home church or perhaps a small independent church, with sound doctrine. That may take a lot of searching!

A news update: Minnesota governor signs gun safety measures: red flag law, expanded background checks. JWR’s Comments: I consider Red Flag laws the worst sort of modern tyranny. Red flag laws essentially create legalized, state-sanctioned SWATing. Often called “Extreme Risk Protective Orders” (ERPOs), Red Flag court orders can be initiated for just vague suspicions or because someone might be offended or irrationally fearful of you exercising your constitutional right to own guns. With a Red Flag order, there is no presumption of innocence, no due process, no opportunity to face one’s accuser, and the burden of proof is on the target of the Red Flag Order rather than on the state. Red Flag hearings are much like the Star Chamber proceedings in England from the 15th to 17th centuries — with much done in absentia. The Boys In Blue obediently come and collect your guns, and then you have to fight in court, to get them back, post facto. Please do your best to stop any Red Flag legislation, in your state!

Mark W. Smith’s Four Boxes Diner: 2A BREAKING NEWS: Biden Deploys Lawyers to Argue FOR Bruen… JWR’s Comment: It is great hearing Mark Smith reiterate the difference between malum prohibitum and malum in se laws. Most Americans are ignorant of the fact that most of the laws on the books are merely legislative “because I said so” statutes.

A Closing Note From JWR: I’d like to update my readers on the editorial process here at SurvivalBlog. Assembling my weekly columns for SurvivalBlog used to be fairly quick and painless. But in recent months, I’ve found that more and more news sites have put their content behind paywalls. I considered it no great loss when the leftist Washington Post began to require a subscription to access its website. But when I saw the conservative investing site Seeking Alpha set up a paywall, that was a real disappointment. Most newspaper websites have erected paywalls. So I’ve increasingly had to rely on links to television news websites. And, of course, their take on the news tends to brief, breezy, and superficial. Most television news is neither in-depth nor incisive. With this in mind, I’m asking my readers to help out by e-mailing me news links that they find interesting, but only those found at non-paywall news sites. Thanks!
