Eli Whitney is the Whitney in Pratt and Whitney.
He also was the first to demonstrate the utility of interchangeable musket parts to US military officials.
He did this by dumping the parts for ten muskets on a table and assembled the weapons. After they were fired, he apparently then took them apart, mixed the parts and repeated the process.
