He made some really good films. I love movies from that era, well, anything before the modern junk came out, actually.
I think the reason movies nowadays are so bad is because the Hollyweird bunch are out of ideas. If you want confirmation, look at how many movies are released that are nothing but re tread comic book stories. All of them seem to be replete with leftist ideas/socialism. Hitchcock knew how to build suspense and fear, and truly make a viewer think.
The recent movie that most reminded me of Hitchcock is Get Out by Jordan Peele. Plenty of suspense and surprises.
