On April 17, 1961, about 1,500 CIA-trained Cuban exiles launched the disastrous Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba in a failed attempt to overthrow the government of Fidel Castro. Due to the Cuba/Soviet intelligence network as well as loose talk by members of the brigade, which was repeated in US and foreign newspaper reports, the Cuban government knew, in advance, of the planned invasion. The Washington Post also reported that the Soviets knew the exact date of the attack, that the CIA was aware that they knew, and that the CIA did not inform president Kennedy.

Cuba doesn’t have any resources we want. Had there been oil we woulda been there in hours.

You really don’t know anything about Cuba under US rule,it made banana republics look really good. If you want a fair comparison try Haiti-200+ years of US interference. Look like a good place?
Should have kept it after the Spanish American war.
Like we kept the Philippines. That led to a bloody war for independence by the Philipino people.

On February 4, 1899, just two days before the U.S. Senate ratified the treaty, fighting broke out between American forces and Filipino nationalists led by Emilio Aguinaldo who sought independence rather than a change in colonial rulers. The ensuing Philippine-American War lasted three years and resulted in the death of over 4,200 American and over 20,000 Filipino combatants. As many as 200,000 Filipino civilians died from violence, famine, and disease.
Our ancestors fought to be free from being a colony and our country has no business taking others peoples’ land and making them a colony.

The enemy would be waiting in large numbers to unload death on Americans, when they arrived. It would have been impossible to wait on ~all Landing Zones. It would have been impossible to guess correctly so many times. ‘Loose Lips’ do sink ships. There are spies and 5th Columnists.

AS, thank you for your reply. My comment wasn’t about the purity of thoughts and actions in foreign countries. I was just trying to apply the lessons learned from the past, to problems we may face today.
