  1. “History is an account mostly false, of events mostly unimportant, which are brought about by rulers, mostly knaves, and soldiers, mostly fools.” – Ambrose Bierce

Having studied historical accounts and accounts of historical accounts, I must say that this snarky statement has quite some truth to it.

Courts of law are more and more discounting the veracity of eyewitness testimony. That is what constitutes most of what we call history.

I have learned to check “history” in words or pictures with sources I trust. Even then, I maintain a questioning and curious attitude.

    Carry on

  2. If this Bierce guy was still around I’d tell him to ki$$ this former “fool” soldiers butt. it’s because of me and other “fools” that he was able to spout such nonsense and have people think it is wisdom.

    1. Some of those fools, other fools not so much.

Has he to thank the soldiers who served in Colonial Service, Colonial conquests, etc. wars of conquest?
What did he own caesars veterans of his conquest of Gaul?
The troops who did suppress the Indian mutiny?

It´s a very rare breed of soldier who choose disobedience when obedience is not honorable
