Editors’ Quote of the Day:

“In all our associations; in all our agreements let us never lose sight of this fundamental maxim – that all power was originally lodged in, and consequently is derived from, the people.” – George Mason

  1. All power and authority originates with Jesus Christ the Creator, Lord of lords and King of kings and Lawgiver. Therefore it is a grave error to think political power originates with men. The Kingdom of Christ is centralized in heaven and very decentralized here on earth. Christ the King and Lawgiver has relegated very limited authority to men to rule over their respective spheres of government. But before a man can rule, he first must be self governed (Personally in submission to Christ). Such a servant to Christ is then qualified to serve as the head of a family, an elder in a Church or as a civil servant. The Law of God is the Law of Liberty and as the basis of morals and law for a western government produces true freedom and prosperity. Our nation was founded by men who commonly held this worldview.

Most Churches don’t preach or believe this anymore which has led Christians to leave the governance of the world to the devil. That serpent is a liar and we are swallowing the lie whole just like Eve did in the garden.

Satan has always sought to usurp the kingdom of Christ by making himself and his minions gods who rule as the source of law and authority. This rebel kingdom seeks to establish a highly centralized (ultimately global) kingdom that is totally centralized at the top. Look at the pyramid on the back of your one dollar bill for their business model. This government always produces tyranny, misery, poverty and the attempted destruction of the family and Church.

We cannot have both systems as they are mortal enemies.

    Read Psalm 2

Chose this day who you will serve.

    1. @Larry,
Your missing the point here. George Mason was one of the founding fathers and his point of reference for this quote is what eventually became the U.S. Constitution. The United States is a Federally Constituted Republic (not a democracy). Within the boundaries of the Constitution, the ultimate power of governance rests with the people, not with the government.

The people themselves should be deriving their authority from the Lord, but that is not a requirement in our chosen form of government. We are not a theocracy. The Lord ultimately has power over life itself and the U.S. government (as with all human governments) will eventually pass away. But for now, as a Federally Constituted Republic, it’s power is derived from the governed people.

    2. The founders of this nation, and the framers of the Constitution, were well grounded in these Biblical, Protestant principles you have articulated. Thus, they recognized that earthly government is an act of man, not God; and that it derives its authority from its authors.

To every citizen, the word of the Lord comes, in the words of the sweet singer of Israel:

2 Sam. 23:2 The spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.
23:3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
23:4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.
23:5 Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.
23:6 But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:
23:7 But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.

Until the Sons of Belial are consumed out of the earth, the kingdoms of this world cannot be the kingdom of Christ; for they will always be a mixture of good and evil. Christ’s kingdom is not now from hence. Yet, we are in the world, kings over our selves by virtue of Christ’s redeeming blood, which avails to rescue all who believe in His name from the kingdom of Belial.

  2. “We the People” seem to have forgotten this fundamental fact of our Constitutional Representative Republic; hence we are now prisoners of government gone wild. It is now inevitable for us once again to suffer through the learning process our forefathers suffered on the path to freedom and liberty. May almighty God our creator have mercy upon us and grant us success in this most auspicious of tasks laid before us and our progeny.
