To be prepared for a crisis, every Prepper must establish goals and make both long-term and short-term plans. In this column, the SurvivalBlog editors review their week’s prep activities and planned prep activities for the coming week. These range from healthcare and gear purchases to gardening, ranch improvements, bug-out bag fine-tuning, and food storage. This is something akin to our Retreat Owner Profiles, but written incrementally and in detail, throughout the year. We always welcome you to share your own successes and wisdom in your e-mailed letters. We post many of those –or excerpts thereof — in the Odds ‘n Sods Column or in the Snippets column. Let’s keep busy and be ready!
Jim Reports:
We had a bit of a blizzard here on Tuesday. I have read that it developed into a more serious storm, as it made its way back east. Thankfully, we had no family travel scheduled for Tuesday. But on Wednesday, I made a long drive to the Spokane airport, to drop off our son for a scheduled flight. The roads were a mess that morning. But I didn’t see any accidents. I count it as a good thing that most folks here in the American Redoubt know how to safely drive on snowy and icy roads.
I’m still working on remodeling our workshop. The latest addition was when I installed a new pull-up exercise bar.
Now, Lily’s report…
Avalanche Lily Reports:
Dear Readers,
This week the weather was all over the place. Early in the week, it was a high of 42 with pouring rain, then the next day, lots of snow with little accumulation, followed by a huge drop in temperatures down to six degrees. Brrr.
This week, I planted a lot of herbs, tomatoes, peppers, and more onions and put them in the guest bedroom under the grow lights. The pre-gardening season has begun! 🙂
The egg count is up from last week, we now are averaging about five eggs per day. More of my pullets need to begin laying. Only one had been laying, last week. My hens decided that the large planter pot on the wall is actually a good place to lay eggs and thusfar I am getting two in there per day. I cleaned them out at the beginning of the week.
We spent time with Miss Eloise and sent her off to her trade school. I’m confident that she is going to do super well. I will miss her. Please pray with us for her success and that she would withstand any and all pressures to compromise her faith and values.
Miss Violet and I spent time working out together, lots of situps, pushups, pull-ups, stretching, walking around the ranch, et cetera.
I’m reading through the Bible once again, beginning in Genesis and I am up to Chapter 29. I am sometimes reading it in Hebrew when I’m curious about the English phrasing of some sentences and the words that were chosen. I am also taking the time to study some words by looking up their definition and context.
May you all have a very blessed and safe week.
– Avalanche Lily, Rawles
