Here are the latest news items and commentary on current economics news, market trends, stocks, investing opportunities, and the precious metals markets. We also cover hedges, derivatives, and obscura. Most of these items are from the “tangibles heavy” contrarian perspective of SurvivalBlog’s Founder and Senior Editor, JWR. Europe’s central bank backs larger-than-expected rate hike. JWR’s Comments: I can foresee that the European Union nations and the English-speaking nations are likely to get into a cycle of one-upmanship in raising interest rates. The rates that we will experience may be quite similar to those of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Why all the pain? Because experience has shown that the only way to stop inflation is to make interest rates match the inflation rate. And by that, I mean the real inflation rate — not the lower official statistic. Raising the cost of borrowing money that high will surely trigger a deep recession. So, get ready for stagflation, folks!

I noticed that Palmetto State Armory (one of our affiliate advertisers) is running a special on Gen 2 AR-15 30-round PMAGs, at $12.30 each. With a Federal magazine ban looming, this is good time to stack them deep! I stand by my prediction that magazine prices will triple, if this ban is enacted. It will have a grandfather clause but no sunset clause!
