Economics & Investing For Preppers

Here are the latest news items and commentary on current economics news, market trends, stocks, investing opportunities, and the precious metals markets. We also cover hedges, derivatives, and obscura. And it bears mention that most of these items are from the “tangibles heavy” contrarian perspective of JWR. (SurvivalBlog’s Founder and Senior Editor.) Today’s focus is on exotic ammo. (See the Tangibles Investing section.)

Cryptos:

Wednesday was a bad day for the cryptos. Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Litecoin were all down by more than 10% in just one day. And Bitcoin Cash was down almost 19.5%. Ouch!  As I’m writing this, they are all now at lows for 2018.  In essence, crypto market levels are now back to where they were in October of 2017. Overall, there were $26 billion in losses in 24 hours. This is painful news for many crypto investors. As I’ve written before: The crypto markets lack sufficient maturity to consider them genuine investments. If you want to dabble in them, then that’s fine. But do not invest anything in a crypto that you cannot afford to see almost completely vanish, overnight. If you want a long term hedge against the eventual destruction of fiat currencies, then don’t buy cryptos.  Buy precious metals.

Tangibles Investing (Exotic Ammo):

I’ve often mentioned investing in exotic ammunition. This generally includes things like: Winchester’s discontinued Black Talon line of pistol ammunition, .50 BMG Raufoss, and assorted tracer, incendiary, AP, API, and APIT ammunition. These days, I would also add special subsonic loads designed for use with a suppressor.  In this column in 2017 and again in March of 2018, I specifically recommended .50 BMG Raufoss.

Since the Democrats will again control the U.S. House of Representatives starting January 3rd, 2019, I’m repeating this investing suggestion: Stock up on exotic ammo. If any of it is Federally banned (presumably with a Grandfather Clause), then you could make a handsome profit!

News Tips:

Please send your economics and investing news tips to JWR. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who particularly watch individual markets. And due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” investing news. We often get the scoop on economic and investing news that is probably ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!

  1. Armor piercing bullets…….
I notice that the article says that you need a license from the BATFEces if you plan on making and selling this speciality ammunition.
It didn’t say anything about needing an ATF license if you plan on making it for your own personal “consumption”.
I’m guessing it’s the same “logic” that says that you don’t have to serialize a weapon that you make for yourself.
    Just something to think about.
