The best water purifier for general carry is Iodine crystals. Carry them in a 35mm can, add water, shake and pour into the canteen. They last, like forever. Just in case you missed it, there is a very interesting article in the Washington Post today about a renowned flu scientist and his thoughts on a possible pandemic.
