On May 9th, 1945, Herman Goering– commander in chief of the Luftwaffe, president of the Reichstag, head of the Gestapo, prime minister of Prussia, and Hitler’s designated successor– was taken prisoner by the U.S. Seventh Army in Bavaria. Goering, who was addicted to painkillers due to a wound, was instrumental in creating concentration camps for political enemies. It was Goering who ordered the purging of German Jews from the economy following the Kristallnacht program in 1938, initiating an “Aryanization” policy that confiscated Jewish property and businesses. Tried and convicted at the Nuremberg trials, he was sentenced to hanging, but before he could be executed he committed suicide by swallowing a cyanide tablet he had hidden from his guards.

Hope and pray the USA will never get like this.
I find it interesting how many leaders world wide are found to be addicted to drugs or alcohol and/or to be in terrible health.
Think of it. During WW2 you had Hitler (a drug addict), Stalin (a drunk), Churchill (a bit less of a drunk) and Roosevelt (with terrible health problems and a fairly heavy drinker and smoker on who knows what mediations) making momentous decisions probably daily. Don’t know the condition of Japanese and Italian leadership.
Later you had JFK responding to the Cuban missile crisis while unhealthy and on various drugs. The last few leaders of the old Soviet Union were barely alive drunks. Old men close to death virtually propped up with sticks.
The more I know about history, the more I wonder how we have survived at all. I think by the Grace of God.
God as the source for Right or Wrong leads to better morality in people. …. … Some people think, their government and the leaders are the source for Right or Wrong; such people march in lockstep doing great evil.
JBH has described why America has remained such a great country over the years, when compared to other places: = “by the Grace of God.” … The Golden Rule of “Love your neighbor as yourself” is understood in Judeo-Christianity to mean ~>everyone.

The ‘headings’ at SurvivalBlog has information, that is often helpful in reviewing frequently, as moral and prepping imperatives. … This is a quote from the ‘About Us’ heading. =
“I concur that Pastor Chuck Baldwin was right when he “voted with his feet” and moved his family from Florida to Montana. Like Chuck Baldwin I believe that is time for freedom-loving Christians to relocate ….” +
“In calamitous times, with a few exceptions, it will only be the ~God fearing that will continue to be ~law abiding. Choose your locale wisely. I can also forthrightly state that I have more in common with Orthodox Jews and Messianic Jews than I do with atheist Libertarians.” ….

I’ve read SurvivalBlog over the years. The people here at SurvivalBlog would welcome all people that truly believe in the Golden Rule, “Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ….
Unfortunately, many people are just talk. They say ‘Love Everyone’ but it really just means to them, = ‘if they think like me.’ …
In a true understanding of the Commandments, God is the Judge of the understanding for Love of neighbor.
Deeds of action reveal God’s Truth much better than just empty talk.

Maybe, so many political leaders take drugs and alcohol, because they are ~self medicating for psychological problems.
JBH was very ~astute for mentioned the dependency so many leaders have for alcohol and drugs.
***********************************
It’s something we should all be concerned about today, too. When voting, are we voting for a person for political office, that’s continually taking prescribed psychotropic medications, and/or always becoming drunk.
In the Bible people drank wine, but God warns against drunkenness.
GGHD, I must agree. I, too, am guilty of what you say.

We do well to remember that, even with drunken an damaged “leaders”, we humble humans often carry the day. Especially when we follow the simple commands from scripture: 1 Corinthians 16:14 New King James Version (NKJV)
14 Let all that you do be done with love.
I have so many LEOs tell me that is their motivation.
And we do well to remember this…
King James Bible:
Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Carry on, in grace
The drug that Goering was addicted to was morphine. It was because of a wound that he suffered during World War 1. He served as a fighter pilot and held “ace” status. He was not unique in being addicted to morphine during this period. Morphine was widely prescribed for pain in the early part of the 20th century and there was a veritable “army of addicts” in the USA, Britain, and Germany following WW1.
I have read that Goering’s first wife, Carin, (who was a Swedish Countess) was the one who weaned him off the morphine.
