“A reminder that HB 2118 takes effect on July 1, 2025 in Washington State.  Here is the key part of the bill, Section 1 (3) from the final language:

No dealer may sell or otherwise transfer, or expose for sale or transfer, or have in his or her possession with intent to sell, or otherwise transfer, any ammunition without being licensed as provided in this section.

Some (including me) believe this will stop many companies from selling ammo to Washington State residents due to the compliance requirements.  Time will tell.

Assess your needs and plan/buy accordingly…  I still recommend AmmoSeek.com. I have no affiliation with them.”

324 additional gun models!  Which guns are now banned in Canada? Here’s what you need to know. Here is an excerpt:

“Attached to Thursday’s expanded bans is an amnesty period to allow individuals and businesses time to turn over the prohibited weapons to police, participate in a federal buyback program or through other specified means.

Participants in the buyback program are compensated for their surrendered firearms. While it is currently only available to Canadian businesses, Public Safety says that a pathway for individual gun owners to participate is forthcoming, and that gun licensees will be notified some time next year.

Owners who lawfully possessed the firearms before the bans are protected from criminal liability for the duration of the period, which will run until Oct. 30, 2025. Additional considerations for Indigenous peoples and those who hunt for sustenance apply.”

“Putting my dog down deeply affected me, but now the entire farm works as it should and things are calm.  My Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs), who are 9 months old and about 100 lbs, took to wandering even though I had them neutered.  It was becoming a daily problem for neighboring ranchers.  People out here are not appreciative since they all have their own guard dogs.  I decided to “invest” in invisible fencing and collars.  The first night they blew through the fence going after a coyote, and then they couldn’t get back on the property due to the fence.  They took shelter in a neighbor’s empty barn, as I discovered when I went looking for them the next morning.  Boy, were they happy to see mom!  I think they are getting the idea that to leave the property becomes problematic.  Home means food, water, and shelter, not to mention lots of love.  The second night they stayed on the property and it’s been going well.

Family came into town for Thanksgiving and it was glorious.  More family comes in early for Christmas.  Lots of cleaning, organizing, cooking, baking, and joy.  I love this time of year even though it gets cold and watering the animals becomes a big chore.  On the one hand, I’m glad I dried off my milk cows for winter. But on the other hand, I have to buy dairy products and there is just no comparison in taste and quality.  Disappointing.  Last year I made enough butter to get through the winter, but this year I did not.  I didn’t freeze milk either.  This will spur me to do better in 2025.  Having endless dairy products on hand is a true blessing.

I changed out my Berkey water filters after using them for 4 years straight.  Impressive lifespan.  I rendered leaf fat from last year’s pigs for lard and holiday baking.

I picked up the beef from the processor, paid $534 for about 400 lbs of beef, organically raised on this farm, plus the heart, liver, soup bones, and dog bones.  A bittersweet blessing since it was one of my prized dairy cows who wouldn’t breed back.  Still, a blessing.  As a large family we are splitting it up and I’m sharing with some neighbors.

And I must say that no matter what is going on in the world, “small town America” is wonderful.  Everyone helps everyone else out.  There are celebrations and parades and contests for every occasion, like a tractor pull!  Churches and ministries abound so everyone is taken care of.  Most children can free-range and be safe.  It more than makes up for a city “convenience” lifestyle.  Wholesome.  I’m loving it.”
