To be prepared for a crisis, every Prepper must establish goals and make both long-term and short-term plans. In this column, the SurvivalBlog editors review their week’s prep activities and planned prep activities for the coming week. These range from healthcare and gear purchases to gardening, ranch improvements, bug-out bag fine-tuning, and food storage. This is something akin to our Retreat Owner Profiles, but written incrementally and in detail, throughout the year. We always welcome you to share your own successes and wisdom in your e-mailed letters. We post many of those –or excerpts thereof — in the Odds ‘n Sods Column or in the Snippets column. Let’s keep busy and be ready!
Jim Reports:
On Monday, I hitched up our three-horse trailer to our pickup and we made a trip to town, to stock up. This included picking up several hundred pounds of cut and wrapped beef, from one of our yearling heifers that we just had butchered. We also bought two large compressed square bales of alfalfa for our horses — for supplementary feeding. And we also bought 14 sacks of assorted grains, to mix for chicken feed. On the same trip, we also stopped at two supermarkets, where we mainly bought fresh vegetables and fruit.
On Wednesday, I re-attached our snowplow blade. If the forecasts are true, it now appears that we may receive up to two feet of snow in the next two weeks.
Now, Lily’s report…
Avalanche Lily Reports:
Dear Readers,
We had a quieter week this week. The time is flying. The weather was horrible quite rainy, with snowstorms. We received about three inches that mostly melted when the rain came. We are expecting rain and snow showers for at least the next seven days. Needless to say, there was very little outdoor activity this week.
This week was another relaxing week.
I put the heifer beef packages in the freezer.
I did find the last errant arrow this week, when I went for a short walk into the meadow while playing a brief Frisbee game in between rain showers with Miss H. our “pup”.
I’ve been caring for and watering the cruciferous and onion seedlings in the bedroom greenhouse.
I read chapter five in my Astronomy book.
My mom is feeling much much better this week. Diet is key to health!
I did some calisthenics and swam once.
Miss Violet and I are reading the book of Exodus at the moment, together.
Off Grid with Doug and Stacey covered the Amos Miller Trials. They are located in Pennsylvania. They have a large farm and feed a huge population of people with their organic dairy produce. The government is trying to shut them down with false charges and with no evidence of food contamination. If the government succeeds, then they could use this court decision to shut down all small farmers in the USA. This is a war for growing our own food! Please watch.
Another heads-up from Ben Davidson over at Suspicious Observers. The Beaufort Gyre is full of fresh water. The warmth in the Arctic continues to melt the ice cap and put even more fresh water into the gyre. When it reaches a certain point it will reverse its flow and will dump the freshwater into another current. That current will dump the freshwater into the Atlantic Ocean. The freshwater dump into the Atlantic Ocean could disrupt the Atlantic Meridian Ocean Current (AMOC), which will cause all kinds of weather issues, increased cloud cover, rain, and cooling of the Earth. It will wreak havoc with our ability to grow food. This could occur in less than two years! Ben put out two videos, “Cold Bomb” last night and one this morning. We really need to stock up on food and acquire materials to grow food under cover.
May you all have a very blessed and safe week.
