  1. I have several RAT 1 folders for EDC, I have the non coated blades, simply brilliant for the money, all of mine came razor sharp out of the box, others not used to very sharp knives seem to cut themselves suddenly when handling them, I highly recommend RAT1 knives.

  2. This is very timely for me. i have been considering changing or adding to the knife on the multi tool I carry everyday but it has been a low priority as I know I would have to do research and I have never carried anything but a small Gerber knife up until now. My considering a better knife is because of the times. I’ve also added some items to both our cars.

However, with the current problems I have added to what I carry in addition to my pistol. I also carry a small flashlight, multi tool and extra magazine.

My birthday is coming up, looks like I’ll try the knife and sharpener.

Thank you for your submission and God Bless you!

  3. While a good amount of my edc tool use is a sharp blade, I find that nothing beats a quality multi-tool with all the functions I rely on 99% of the time. I’ve had a Leatherman Wave on my hip for 20 years and it is my go-to choice for edc, even on the job I used it 80% of the time despite having a toolbox with me all day long.

However, in some more dire cases, the blade of a multi-tool will not provide enough peace of mind. So I acquired the strongest folder I could get my hands on, along with a couple good fixed blades to augment my edc with on those occasions when more not only better, but advisable. Enter the Ka-Bar Mule, the Cold Steel SRK, and the Busse Desert Combat Rat. I drove the point of my Mule into a palm tree and stood on it to look over a wall, and I’ve batoned it through firewood. Yes, I batoned a folder. That knife is strong and holds an edge, plus it fits my big mitts. I got the SRK because the senior enlisted infantry were replacing their Ka-Bar fixed blades with them in the IZ and it seemed like the thing to do. Likewise, I acquired the Bussed knife because it was one of the few things senior enlisted were spending a lot of money on to equip themselves with while out on patrol.

I have a lot of knives. It is a bit of an obsession I suppose. But there’s only a handful that see regular use, and have for at least the past 15 years. The rest are either specialized or safe queens. I don’t need a gut hook every day, and knives that cost more than $500 are really just collector items.

  4. I also have a Christmas gift card for Academy and Amazon, and will be making some purchases, thank you! As I am more of a beginner at blade sharpening, my first purchase will the the AcuSharp. The down side of this is that I have nowhere enough hair on my body, much less arms to use it as a test. I will have to use something else.

  5. I love my Ontario RAT knife. It is the first thumb stud opener that I’ve been able to open with one hand as I have problems with my hands. Previously I was using Kershaw assisted opening knives. This is a great knife!

  6. The best for the money! In AUS8 and in D2… also good for barter, in the future, like Tramontina machetes, Opinel folders, Mora and Hultafors knives, Victorinox and Leatherman multitools…

  7. Have 2 of the RAT 1s and have been using them for years. Great no frills knives. I am a LEO and laugh at the prices some of my officers pay for their knives. For me the RAT 1 is just as good as knives costing 10 times as much.

I also use a Work Sharp tool that resembles the Accusharp with great results. I am decent with a whetstone but the little tool gets the it done in a fraction of the time for less than 10.00 on Amazon.

  8. While there are many legends about the Holy Grail, it is currently located in the Cathedral in Valencia, Spain, in a small chapel just to the right of the entrance that was made for it in the middle ages.

It is neither of precious metals, nor ornamented stone. It is an extremely plain, small round cup made of alabaster, and quite beautiful because of the markings in the stone, though it is not otherwise decorated. Archeologists have identified it as typical of cups made around the first century in the eastern Roman Empire.

It has been visited by popes, and is almost certainly authentic. It is not credible that a medieval forger would have had any idea of what types of utensils were used in the first century Roman Empire. Archeology would not be invented until the nineteenth century.

The cup itself is contained in a medieval stand, but this is not part of the cup itself, and no one has ever said it was.

Bizarrely, when I tell people that I know where the Holy Grail is, they get all excited. When I tell them to go to the Cathedral of Valencia, and turn right at the entrance, they lose interest. They don’t really care about it at all, only about the actually non-existent mystery. Which is mainly the result of English speaking countries total lack of interest in anything to do with Spain.

  9. Novice, I enjoyed the introduction to your article. How true it is that the only sure resting place for our souls is in the Lord. We must strive each day to throw off the cares of the world and put our whole trust in our loving heavenly father.

Both the Rat knife and the sharpener are great recommendations. We have a couple of those sharpeners and they work well. Another sharpener you might want to check out is the Work Sharp Guided Field Sharpener. It’s not quite as foolproof, but once you get the hang of it, it works really well. I like it because it’s so versatile and because it has a built-in strop. Here’s a link that should give credit to JWR, since I entered Amazon through another of his links: https://www.amazon.com/Work-Sharp-Guided-Field-Sharpener/dp/B009YKHZ96/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1UGWKZ9C9EHQO&dchild=1&keywords=work+sharp+knife+sharpener&qid=1611325244&s=hi&sprefix=worksharp+knife+sharpener%2Cstripbooks%2C254&sr=1-5

  10. I have come across a different explanation of the mystery of the Holy Grail. The Grail is not a cup or chalice at all. It is an obsidian glass vial that was used to collect blood from Christ’s side when pierced by the Roman soldier’s spear. The story of the chalice was started by the Knights Templar who have been guarding the real Grail for many centuries to hide it from those seeking it for the occultic magical powers that it supposedly holds. Of course back then no one could have known about cloning from DNA, so if this story is true, the Grail might indeed have incredible power to those that know how to use it.
