(1) Define ALL semiautomatic rifles as “assault weapons” regardless of caliber (e.g., .22 short) and other features (e.g. pistol grip, muzzle device, collapsible stock, ability to accept detachable magazine). Semiautomatic 22 rimfire rifles with straight wood stocks and fixed tubular magazines of any capacity are now “assault weapons” in WA. You must be 21 or older to purchase, complete training, register and get approval from local police and wait at least 10 days for transfer.
(2) Require registration of defined “assault weapon” above. This is partially complete in WA as it only applies to any transferred weapon to include all private sales or transfers. The estate is attempting to pass legislation requiring registration of all other weapons in possession.
(3) Ban and confiscate all semiautomatic rifles as defined above. Confiscation will be accomplished through red flag laws, forced “buy back” and criminalizing possession.
