  1. Patrick McManus books are laugh out loud funny. It is well worth your time to get these books to brighten your day. ‘The Night The Bear Ate Gumba’ will leave your stomach hurting from laughing so much.

If Pat McManus isn’t the funniest guy who ever picked up a pen, please tell me who is so I can get some of their books. the only time I’ve laughed so hard was Mark Twain’s Roughing It when he was describing the comb hanging in a stage stop, “If I had to descrive that old patriarch or die I believe I’d ask to see a selection of coffins.”

    I first started reading Patrick McManus before he had any books published when he wrote for Field and Stream. “The Further Teachings of Rancid Crabtree” was my first story. I bought his first book as soon as it was published, A Fine and Pleasant Misery and I highly recommend this as a good starting point for anyone interested in laughing your guts out. You’ll soon buy his other books. I have 11 and as Kevin said, they’ll brighten your day when your down. He also has the occasional heart-touching story such as The Miracle of the Fish Plate. You’ll love his writing. If you have a weak heart it’s best to avoid McManus, unless you don’t mind laughing yourself to death. Which wouldn’t be a bad way to go in my book!

    1. We, too, have all of his writings, even most his Field and Stream articles passed along by my folks. As we live in the hinter-boonies we go through a lot of audio books when going anywhere and McManus is our family favorite. The only rule we have: absolutely no eating or drinking when Dad puts McManus on! The mess from sudden bursts of hysterical laughter are too much!

      1. Another fan here . . . . been reading his works for over 30 years. One of the highlights of my short time living in north Idaho was meeting Mr. McManus at a book signing in Spokane Valley. The couple of books he signed for me are keepsakes. I will say, after living there a short time I can better appreciate some of the references he makes to Blight County.

      It was good to read that some of the Kenosha residents are pushing back, even if only a little. When rioters drove to more residential areas to spread their mayhem, on at least two occasions the homeowners opened up with a few warning shots (not that I’m a fan of warning shots).
