I got the chuckles when I saw the photo; I had the very same computer setup when I was first starting out!
Hey Animal House, so you were one of those rich people who could afford a Mac! Us po’ folk had to start out with an Apple IIe with double disc drives. Some things were better before the mouse was invented. I still use a lot of the CTRL functions since they are still way quicker than a mouse and work in all programs, like ctrl-C, ctrl V, and ctrl-S for copy, paste and save. Ctrl-Home, ctrl-End, and being able to actually write programs for it in Basic, ah the good old days! Thanks for the reminder. 🙂
After watching every season and episode of ALONE, I decided to make an addition to my bag. A steel jawed leg-hold trap, muskrat size. Could make the trek home, if it happens to be a long one, a bit less wearisome. I never did learn the skill of snares.
I lost your addresses a while back, this is the only way I could see to get this idea to all the readers.
i think Pournelle and niven also wrote the janisarries series which have elments of survivalism in it….
The National Park Service has warned against sacrificing another person to an irate bear “even if you think the friendship has run its course” in a rather informal set of recommendations posted on Facebook.
To reiterate the concern over unscrupulous hikers pushing others to their doom to save themselves, the post ends by stating: “We apologize to any ‘friends’ who were brought on a hike as the ‘bait’ or were sacrificed to save the group. You will be missed.”
