A few weeks ago there was a local power outage in the evening. I had been sitting at my computer, and when the lights went out, I sat quietly for a few moments calculating the darkened pathway to my flashlight. It’s a large heavy duty metal flashlight which is always kept in only one centrally located spot, right next to the fire extinguisher.
As I sat thinking for a moment I realized how DARK it really was. No outside street lights, no ambient light from the stove clock or coffee maker, not a speck of light from anywhere, pitch black. It was a reminder of the importance of having first, second, and third level back ups. If the lights ever go out for real, the well-prepared will be glad they took the time to gather the means to light the night.
Rucksack Rob, That light (HX3) is UV, not IR. Doesn’t work real well with NVG.
You are correct, my mistake. Maybe I was thinking of UV disinfecting while wishing for night vision…lol
Not a clip light, but for area illumination, Streamlight’s Siege is a great source of light that can full a room. LED, w variable brightness and a red setting, flash and SOS. Mine takes 4 Ds I think. I’ve read by it during outages. Recommended.
Flashlights will be come more important if one lives off grid and must conserve power. Most have a larger pile of the smaller LED lamps than their pile of headlamps. And the elastic material that is used on headlamps usually get stretched out, and the lamp can fail in some way, mechanically or electrically. Necessity is the mother of invention. Being without a headlamp is a disadvantage. A standard pocket sized led flashlight can be attached to the top side of the brim of a baseball cap with two or more tie wraps, or cordage inserted through the brim, and around the light. Tie wraps are the best, and will not work loose with lots of use. Works as well, or better than a headlamp. The shorter and lighter the weight flashlight is better. It is as comfortable to wear and keeps the head warmer. This means it is double plus gooder. In the dark no one will care what it looks like. I might look like a dork, but I can see in the dark and cost me next to nuth’n.
I carry a PowerTac flashlight in my weak side pocket daily. You won’t believe how often you can use a light until you carry one full time. This one has 5 brightness levels, from something like 17 lumens up to 1080. Uses a rechargeable 18650 lithium battery. I charge it once a month but it will take 2 CR123s in a pinch. Lots of similar tactical lights out there as well. Hard to use hands-free, but worth a look. Just buy a decent brand and don’t believe the lumens or funn times on anything you buy direct from China. Coronavirus deaths are not the only thing thru lie about!
We’re celebrating Passover tonight! It took all day to clean house and prepare the food. My day was “interrupted” by a niece wanting to know more about our faith. So I, with great seriousness and gladness of the opportunity, dropped everything, to fulfill that need. We just ate our meal and are going to go for a walk together as a family and will pray some more. Tonight we read Chapters 11-13 of Exodus and Chapters 17-20 of John, before our meal.
May you all be blessed tonight and the rest of the week.
Everything is fine. In Hebrew this is Hakol Beseder. Our moderation will be sporadic for the next few days as tomorrow is a day of rest. We will be resting and reading the scriptures and praying for all that is happening in the World and among our friends, family and blog readers. May you all be blessed.

My apologies Lily,
This whole thing has got me on edge! I keep thinking that tomorrow I will have a “normal peaceful day” and as soon as I get up, things start falling apart.
I was worried about you and your family due to JWR just coming out of quarantine and thought something really bad had happened.
I pray you have a Blessed time and I wish everyone a happy Easter!
We must remain focused on HIS love and protection!

I see that Coast also makes a model very similar (the HX3) in the same price range that is white light / I.R. (infra-red) for those who may need companion lighting with their night vision devices.
