  1. Is the Taurus 9mm ambidextrous; will it and the manual safety work for a lefty? I’ve looked but haven’t found that answer so far. I’ve never owned a handgun before but the price is right for my budget.

    1. Hi Ani,
Regarding the Taurus GC2 9mm JWR mentions, I do not believe the safety will work for a ‘lefty’. It is ideally situated for the right thumb. There is also the safety in the trigger same as Glocks, therefore the problems with a manual safety is that the user often forgets, and the gun fails to fire, or fractions of a second are lost while operating the safety. This is why Glock, and other manufacturers copy Glock’s design. This means you can ignore it the holster will be a hard plastic type like this: https://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Scorpion-Gear-Millennium-Retention/dp/B014I24Y9I/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=GC2+holster&qid=1577127133&s=sporting-goods&sr=1-11

I do not know if the magazine release could be moved. This often possible. The CG2 is a under appreciated bargain, well worth looking into. At this price, it might be worth using it with the limitations in place. It would serve until you found something else, and then serve as a back up. I prefer it to my Springfield XD9. The compact size of the GC2 means that it will be easier to find a comfortable and multiple ways of carrying it. What is the best hand gun or knife to have? The one you got. If it is a bother to carry, then it may not get carried as often. I believe this is a good size for most females, or medium sized hands.

      1. OK. Found a pic of the gun and the manual safety is definitely not in the right place for me. Same with the magazine release. But you’re saying the manual safety could just be left disengaged if the gun were carried in a hard holster such as you linked to as the trigger safety is still in place and that’s ambidextrous? Appreciate the info as I’m seriously ignorant about guns; can grow anything but guns are a mystery……

        1. Hi Ani,
I think you got it. Get a holster like you’ve seen in the left hand configuration and see it the gun fits. It probably will. At this price, it is worth trying it out. The magazine release would now be the only issue, yet it still might work out for you. Yet I would look before I leaped at hand guns designed for left handed shooter first. See if the price is right for the benefits they might offer. At the least, the GC2 would be a good one for the bedside.

        2. Howdy Ani,
Yes, just rely on the trigger safety like so many of the rest of us do that have no issues either. Being of the southpaw persuasion as well, I’ve trained my middle finger to operate the mag release on that ‘other side’ which works ok for me. YMMV on that technique, but give it a try. Always more then one way to skin the cat.
