  1. “… both [Jim] Jones and the Temple became influential in San Francisco politics, culminating in the Temple’s instrumental role in George Moscone’s mayoral victory in 1975. Moscone subsequently appointed Jones as the chairman of the San Francisco Housing Authority Commission.”

“Jones was able to gain contact with prominent politicians at the local and national level. For example, he and Moscone met privately with vice presidential candidate Walter Mondale on his campaign plane days before the 1976 election, leading Mondale to publicly praise the Temple. First Lady Rosalynn Carter also met with Jones on multiple occasions, corresponded with him about Cuba, and spoke with him at the grand opening of the San Francisco headquarters—where he received louder applause than she did.”

“In September 1976, California assemblyman Willie Brown served as master of ceremonies at a large testimonial dinner for Jones attended by Governor Jerry Brown and Lieutenant Governor Mervyn Dymally. At that dinner, Brown touted Jones as “what you should see every day when you look in the mirror” and said that he was a combination of Martin Luther King, Jr., Angela Davis, Albert Einstein, and Mao Tse Tung. Harvey Milk spoke to audiences during political rallies held at the Temple,”

The Bible warns against people like Jim Jones, “15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” Matthew 7:15 King James Version (KJV)

  2. Totally off topic and into the mitochondrial soup. For myself anyway, the ‘wow’ factor is intense, as this is paradigm changing stuff.

Here is a video that describes how photons are the essential drivers of intra-cellular activity. The chemical process in our cell is ordered by photons, not by the random interaction of dumb electrons. Photons make life possible.

The title of the video says it all: We Are Beings of Light, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg8WeAMQwlA&t=623s

Still think that all this came together by chance?

    1. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. [From the beginning of the Bible.]

  3. …have been listening to “The Shack” book on CD while commuting. After reading the last two comments, the line “how deep do you want to go,” (God to the main character,) came to mind. The carefully constructed explanation of many scriptures and the meaty theological points brought to the reader have had my brain stretching past comfort…need to listen to much of the dialogue many times to absorb even half of the stellar facets available in this gem. (Especially concerning the character of God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus in relationship to us.) It makes me feel like quite the infant Christian after all these years, (AND very much loved!)

How deep do you want to go? Not sure there’s enough time left in my life to do more than scratch the surface.

    1. Unfortunately, The Shack is a piece of nominally “Christian” fiction that riddled with bad, bad doctrine. It is based on occultic/New Age practices. Please just stick to scripture itself, and few reliable commentaries.

      1. J.W.R. Thanks for the warning on the lack of accurate doctrine contained in this fictional work. The movie was recommended to me but i chose the book form knowing how far the departure from the original it would be. Not sure if i will finish now…

Do you or A.L. have recommendations for commentary focusing on the character/attributes of God/Trinity? Especially interested in the relationship He intends to have with us as His children.

Seems the older i grow, the more i see i need to do…..
