  1. One other suggestion a friend of mine made – if you live in a state where you can get fireworks, you can put a rocket-type firework inside a PVC pipe, cover it with a condom or other lightweight loose cap and use an electric match to ignite it. You could attach the clothespin ‘switch’ and battery to the outside (appropriately protected from water) and partially bury it (with the opening pointing up, of course 8-)).

  2. Re: MURS Dakota Alert

Gotta go to work, and work on my only running vehicle so gotta be brief. I can elaborate latter if there is interest.

The Dakota Alert can also can be easily wired to be triggered with trip wire as well as using it’s IR sensor. It is hypothetically possible to cover 360 degrees with one sensor using trip wire on 3 to 4 points. A relay can also be activated to switch various voltages to a device. And the radio transmitter can be altered via a dash pot to push out close to 1 watt, that can be fed into a linear amplifier that typically transmits the signal at up to 25 watts.

    1. RE: Dakota Alert

It is also easy to make a cross band repeater out of a receiver and a Baofeng, that will relay and booster the Dakota Alert Sensor. I prefer to defend at a distance, and have early warning. The further out that I can detect entrance into my AO, the more like the threat will be detected prior to probing my close in defenses. Early warning can deploy a patrol, to put eyes out on roads, alert on OP…..

  3. The Milton bell brings back many memories……specifically the memory of the gas station air compressor turning on every time after the Milton Bell sounded…….

  4. Ah good old Lafayette…part of the Satan Masons….I meant Free Masons. ” What does the entered apprentice seek???” … ” More light from the light bearer Lucifer”. Maybe original Freemasonry was a good form of rebellion against the evil of the Catholic church [that was] claiming the world was flat and burning anyone alive who disagreed. But now as you progress through the degrees you learn who you really serve. Taking gruesome blood oaths to never reveal secrets. It’s called a Masonic Temple for a reason. The head of the lodge is called the worshipful master…worshipful of who???? Do some research.

  5. Part 5 does not yet have the ability to post comments, so I’ll post here:

First, this is a superb article that covers a wide-range of possibilities. Thank you.

Second, and why I am posting a reply: For those considering using firearm blank cartridges, fireworks rockets, etc. in conjunction with trip wires, I most strongly recommend purchasing the DVD course “Defense of Property” by attorney Andrew Branca at http://www.lawofselfdefense.com. The course is not cheap, but the knowledge it imparts could keep you out of prison, or from being a defendant in a civil liability lawsuit. Additionally, for those of you who are armed in public, Branca’s book, “The Law of Self Defense” is highly recommended as a starting point to understanding the laws related to self defense.

  6. Elements of a Security System: Good article, got me thinking of adding to my own system with a few of your ideas. Especially appreciate Tunnel Rabbit’s comments as I use the MURS as part of my system. Would like him to do an article on his ideas with that system sometime. Thanks
