Militiamen from SW Virginia, NE Tennessee, Kentucky and Western NC gathered at Sycamore Shoals and crossed the mountains to defeat Major Ferguson’s Loyalist Militia at Kings Mountain.
Many of us can claim descent from these Overmountain Men. Some of the militia from the area served in the Creek and Choctaw Wars, and followed Andy Jackson to the Battle of New Orleans.
