You should look into Cherry Max rivets, we use them in the aviation maintenance business. It’s a blind rivet just like a pop rivet but is much stronger than a standard pop rivet. You’ll have to buy a rivet gun which is basically just a beefed up pop rivet squeezer. Aircraft Spruce is one source for the rivets and squeezers.
Also, Aircraft Spruce and other aviation hardware companies are great sources for pre-drilled bolts, castle nuts, fiber lock nuts, etc. You can also buy bolts/screws with drilled heads for using safety wire.
Fastening…I believe you mean fastening, rather than attachment..
Great article, thank you!
Buy up those buckets of old nuts and bolts at garage sales, auctions, and batches of mixed fasteners with damaged packaging from retailers that just want to get rid of them. Negotiate aggressively! Disassemble old engines, equipment, etc for the fasteners. OBTW kids love taking stuff apart! 16D nails and roofing nails will likely always come in handy.
A bolt with a shank(cut off threads) makes a superior rivet. Most semi trailers are made with aluminum cold rivets that could be hand bucked(head side supported while other side is formed),sold cheaply at trailer repair suppliers. The tighter the rivet fits the stronger the attachment a form of press fit is temperature variation-freeze rivet, heat parts(dry ice/hot oven-torch) allows enough expansion/contraction to assemble before normalization of temps. For volume work arbor presses are used, larger work could be preformed on a hydraulic press
