  1. RE: Instructional videos for fall arrest gear
I used to supervise construction crews building telecommunications towers. Due to this, I was certified as a fall arrest instructor and considered to be the “competent person” on site for OSHA purposes. I was trained to a similar level as fire department high angle rescue teams.
IF you are in a situation that requires fall arrest gear, I highly advise that one person on the project gets real, hands-on professional training, so that person can then pass on that knowledge and oversee operations. Don’t get all of your training from Youtube videos. There are many different situations to cover, the answers are not always obvious, and getting it wrong can get somebody killed.

  2. I have a red flag on the OTP in that I can’t find any link to the public specification on HOW they generate random data. One of the largest security problems (including the NSA that compromised RSA’s BCRYPT lib) was to use a weak random number generator or entropy source. (Hint: go directly from an entropy source like radioactive decay, or celestial noise).

That said, Cryptography is rarely the problem as noted – it is illegal to use it DIRECTLY over amateur radio. Hence steganography. I don’t recall an article on how to do this so you can hide communication in plain sight.

Oh, the variations in precise length of the dits and dahs of the morse code vary just a little bit while describing what nice or more recently the unseasonable weather can be used with error correction to send mes

  3. I have a 4-bay battery charger VERY similar to the one mentioned above, but it accepts AAA, AA, C, D, and even the 3.7v Li-Ion rechargeable batteries used in my Streamlight ProTac HL. It’s a really handy unit! It also runs on 110VAC/12VDC. I found the thing at a yard sale for ten bucks. I asked the seller what it was for, and he said it was sold to him when he bought a “vape” at the local smoke shop. I don’t have the model on hand right now. I’ll add it when I get home. I believe it was also available at Amazon.

  4. I have the Richard Graves ‘Bushcraft’ in paperback from the 80’s, but ‘6 Ways In – 12 Ways Out’ from USRSOG I think is even better. Buy several copies and treat all but one like the scientist in LUCIFER’S HAMMER novel – it is worth having several copies of it around. Give to your group and pass it around – a lot of good practical knowledge in it.
