  1. In Flanders Fields

    By John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

  2. 1) In both WWI and WWII, France declared war on Germany and had to be rescued by America and Russia.

And the end result of that was that France got up yesterday , shot off its mouth like a little lapdog , and insulted both countries.

    2) In spite of the current quarrel between Russia and USA, I think it would have done much for world peace if Putin and Trump had ganged up yesterday and physically kicked the crap out of Macron.

And then noted that the ceremony honoring WWI dead was no longer a celebration of their sacrifice but a deep regret at the waste that gave us modern day France.

  3. It is well that war is so terrible, other wise we would grow too fond of it. – Gen. Robert E. Lee, Army of Northern Virginia, and all Confederate ground forces, Commanding.

  4. In 1969 I was assigned to body escort. I accompanied the bodies of Marines Killed In Action (KIA) back to their families. We who performed that duty are few in number, a “special forces” cadre if you will.

Seeing the pain in the eyes of a dead Marine’s wife, father, or mother will live with me for all my days.

    Carry on.
