SurvivalBlog presents another edition of The Survivalist’s Odds ‘n Sods— a collection of news bits and pieces that are relevant to the modern survivalist and prepper from “HJL”. Today, another FBI terrorist arrest is profiled. However, this one seems more like an alphabet agency justifying itself again.
NexGen Warfare
Reader G.P. sent in this article on the next generation of warfare – genetically engineered viruses. Apparently, DARPA is already working on a project that will use insects to infect crops with genetically modified viruses that edit the crops DNA to make them more resilient against disease. Another project receiving DARPA funding was the project to use genetically modified mosquitoes to deliver a sterilizing agent to their malaria-carrying counterparts. Of course both of these programs are being carried out under the auspices of helping people, but it’s not hard to see why DARPA is involved. It would be the exact same technology used to deliver weaponized viruses and diseases.
Seed Vaults
Reader H.L. sent in this article outlining a new study that shows that a full 36% of critically endangered plants produce recalitrant seeds which cannot be dried and preserved. The standard method of preserving seeds is to dry them and then freeze them and these type of seeds cannot handle that. Plants that fall in this category include oak trees, mango trees, avocado trees and horse chestnut trees. Once those plants are gone, they are truly gone. Plant diversity across the globe is facing declines and while there are other methods of preserving these plants, they are expensive and do not extend the life indefinitely. It would appear the best way to preserve these plants is to make sure they are growing. This can be challenging as genetically modified plants are deployed for various reasons, often pushing the native and heirloom plants out of the way.
Chip Implants
Fox news recently ran a followup article to the Swedish chip implant program. Around 4,000 customers have had electronic RFID chips implanted in their hand just below the thumb. They can use the implant to open secure doors, pay for tickets and share emergency information with medical personnel. It is touted as a secure way to link your digital ID with your physical ID and enables access management in a way that protects individual self-sovereignty. Several states in the U.S. including California and Missouri, have already implemented regulations on chip implants due to the possibility of abuses. The fear is that the concept will morph into a national ID type program. Thanks to DSV for the link.
Seven Million Without Water
Reader T.J. sent in this video from southernprepper1 on water preparations. Apparently, Mexico city has announced that they will be shutting down the city water supply for approximately four days while they carry out repairs and upgrades on the system. This means that seven million people will be without water for an extended period of time. These people at least get forewarning that there will be an interruption in their water supply. But it does bring to the forefront the concept of making sure that you have a backup plan. Even if the plan is just having a barrel of water that can be filled on short notice, having that supply can make the difference between life and death.
FBI Terrorist Arrest
Last week, the FBI arrested a 30 year-old Iraqi refugee for building a car bomb and teaching others how to do it. According to the report, Ahmad informed the confidential source that he knew how to detonate a bomb using a cell phone – a skill he learned during the war in Iraq. The confidential source then asked Ahmad if he could show him how to build one and Ahmad agreed. Over the course of several hours, he built a bomb and explained to the others how to do it. He then had his students build a second one while he supervised. While building the bomb is clearly in violation of law, it is not clear that he intended to use it.
Let this be another example of why you should never let anyone talk you into doing something that you know is wrong or immoral. You never know if that person prompting you is an alphabet agency plant or not. Having the knowledge is not a crime, but Ahmed crossed the line (perhaps unknowingly).
School Thought Police
Florida public schools are building their own private police forces in the wake of the Parkland school shooting. However, it’s now obvious that these will be misused. A concerned parent sent the school superintendent an email notifying them that the new policy of allowing transgender students to use the opposite sex bathroom was not appreciated and that if something happened, the superintendent would be held personally liable. The superintendent decided that was a physical threat and deployed two officers to the home to intimidate the family. It’s worth noting that these private police have zero jurisdiction off of the campus, yet they were used anyway. It’s also worth noting that the child was only seven and not yet even in school. Like we’ve said before, get your kids out of these indoctrination camps while you still can. Thanks to reader D.S. for the link.

Please send your news tips to HJL. (Either via e-mail of via our Contact form.) These are often especially relevant, because they come from folks who watch news that is important to them. Due to their diligence and focus, we benefit from fresh “on target” news. We often “get the scoop” on news that is most likely ignored (or reported late) by mainstream American news outlets. Thanks!
The federal government’s DARPA needs to meet the Tower of Babel.
Genetically engineered viruses? Aww…thats just an old X-Files plot. This could never happen….
Re: FBI Terrorist Arrest. Wouldn’t the better question be why in any sane world do we have an Iraqi named Ahmad in this country? Whose brilliant idea was it to import future terrorists? Why did we allow any Muslims to immigrate?
Re; Mexico City without water,They say 4 days, will probably turn in to 2 weeks, Even 4 days without flushing toilets and showers should be interesting and aromatic.
Mexico city sinks three feet a year partially due to 21 million people’s water usage . When the water runs out , they will head north . Securing our southern border has never been so important.
Wait,Mexico city,with 12 million people,has sunk 30 feet the last decade?And we haven’t heard?Fake news?
