Military Arms Channel: My Get Home Bag. JWR’s Comment: His approach is more appropriate for impromptu vehicular evacuation, rather than an extended wilderness E&E “getting home” ordeal. Perhaps his approach is more realistic, given the odds. If you live in a remote rural area like I do that still has pay phones, then I ‘d recommend also packing a roll of quarters. Also handy for vending machines…

Gear (Arm-Braced Remington Tac-14):
I recently assembled a Remington Tac-14 12 gauge “firearm”, using a folding SB Tactical arm brace, that I ordered from Suarez International. (Full disclosure: I paid full retail for this brace assembly, and I’ve not received any payment or other consideration from Suarez for this product mention. It was self-initiated.) I must say that I have been impressed with its handling. The recoil is stout, when shooting buckshot and slugs. It transformed what I would otherwise consider a novelty or “yahoo” gun into something truly practical. An arm-braced Remington Tac-14 is now my primary trail gun, for bear protection. Granted, it may draw some disapproving looks and comments when I hike near the crowds at places like Glacier National Park, but so be it. I’d much rather face Whining Liberal scorn than an attack from a mama grizzly. If they don’t like it: tough! I want to have the option of carrying both a Grande-size Pepper Spray and a Grande-size Lead Spray. The SB-14 in this configuration is perfect for me. OBTW, the nylon violin cases that Suarez also sells make for fairly covert transport.

While you are up on the ladder, anyway: Massca Down Pipe Gutter Balloon Guard Filter Strainer – Pack of 4

Kolo Sports Premium Auto Emergency Kit 125-Piece Multipurpose Emergency Pack – Automotive Roadside Assistance & First Aid Set. JWR’s Comment: Yes, you can assemble a much more capable kit yourself. But this off-the-shelf kit is a great starting point, at a very reasonable price. I recommend that you get one of these, and then add to it. (At the minimum, add a set of 15-minute road flares.)
