  1. “But primarily due to short window of opportunity and poor publicity, the number of guns that were amnesty registered was fairly small.”

I’m not as sure that these are all of the reasons for the small number of registrations.

When will the NRA demand the immediate and total repeal of all gun laws in the US?

  2. JWR…As always, intelligent well thought out position and presentation. Wait til the powers that be figure out how much money they can make. Then things will change quickly cause IT’S ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY! One other thought. What ever happened to the legislation legalizing suppressors? Would love to see a followup on this. Job well done…keep it up.

    1. Interesting article. I don’t see the government doing anything in regards to guns, especially with some of the nut bags out there yelling to ban them all, that doesn’t involve money. And given that congress didn’t even have the CO Jones for an up or down vote on the Hearing Protection Act, I don’t see them opening up a window for machine guns. I wish that they would do so on both issues, but politicians are a slimy lot.

  3. None of the fatal shots I commended to our loyal opposition in VN were with a firearm on full auto. I saw belt fed machine guns do the deed a time or two, but only once done with an M-16. If you just like wasting ammo like a kid in a candy store, I guess full auto is your bag. While I endorse law abiding citizens owning full auto machine guns, in practicality, their use in war is to kill large groups of people moving in your direction. I don’t anticipate any such usage in the here and now, and their use as suppressive fire is a dicey thing too. Kindly recall that such noise will also draw the attention of those you would meet on the battlefield, and not in a friendly way. If our so called “leaders” would come up with the appropriate laws to unknot this current thorn bush of confusion, I’m all for it. As long as it promotes the pro-gun direction.

  4. Been shooting my entire adult life, with countless days of professional training and range time under my belt. Been a staunch member of the NRA. Been closely following the hostile legislative onslaught against 2A rights here in CA. In light of the soft positions the NRA has been taking in the name of “compromise” – and forgetting the 2A text “shall not be infringed” – I’ve recently made the sobering decision to allow my current membership to permanently expire. The NRA has lost its way, and has finally lost me forever. Just like the Boy Scouts…an American institution with solid beginnings that was taken over by those who don’t subscribe to the same ideals as those before them.

I will instead consider GOA or FPC, as they hold firm to the Founders’ original intent, without budging or negotiation. If I shrug my shoulders and accept even the smallest loss of rights within my lifetime, there will be all that much less for my children, and their children. If each successive generation shrugs off a little more as they deem acceptable to keep the peace, our descendants will one day wake to a world around them that’s a fraction of what we had, just as ours is now a fraction of what our Founders handed to us.

  5. The “closed” registration was one of the main reasons that Chicago’s gun ban and Illinois refusal for a CCW law were over turned by the courts. This may be precident if a citizen that was unable to register a part or whole NFA item due to age(anyone under 50) might prevale in sueing the BATFE to reopen the registry. The possible flood of newly transferable parts and complete weapons would likely collapse the”bubble” prices of previously registered guns but they are artificially high due to goverment regulation(what is the open market cost of a AK47 ?)
