  1. Since the schoolchildren’s blizzard happened on Jan 12, 1888 instead of June 12, 1888, perhaps you ought to wait until Jan to post it? Just a thought…

  2. When I was in the 6th grade we had a blizzard come blasting through the Midwest…that would have been the winter of ’68-’69. They couldn’t get a bus out to our little country school for several hours. Finally the bus mechanic managed to get a bus out there and delivered us all over the district. I normally got home about 4:00, didn’t get home till 9:00 that night. The last ones off the bus was after midnight. Very exciting when you’re 12. I think my mom freaked…..
These days if there is even a hint of snow the kids don’t even go to school.

  3. When I was school aged, we didn’t have a snow day until it was at least a foot deep. Here in Texas, snow hits the ground in any appreciable amount, (an inch or more), an it’s cancel all schools in the district. I’m not saying I lived in some pioneers self reliance bubble, I’m just saying that sometimes I think the younger generations are protected too much. A little fire in the belly starts with a little time on the crucible and in the fire itself. 1 Peter, 4:12. Steel results from fire and hammering out the impurities in iron. The flip side of this of course, is that the younger generations need to be protected from other generations, often. And I don’t want to go to no dad burned Outer Limits, either.
