2. I have a little story to tell about Necco…About 10 years ago my oldest was in 1st grade and her teacher wanted to send Valentines with some candy overseas to our troops. I was put in charge along with another mom to organize our Valentine drive. The kids made cards and brought a lot of candy for our troops but we wanted to do more. So I did an internet search on candy companies that will donate to our troops and Necco was one of them. I called their customer service number and was given information about the donation process. We had to fill out a form giving the service man or women’s name and where they were stationed. In the process of talking to the customer service rep I asked how much candy that they send over and the rep said that they send 10 pounds of a variety of Necco candy products. In addition to the candy they will ship it at no cost to the service man or women’s family. I about died. I had never heard of a company willing to donate with no strings attached to the family. We managed to get 2 boxes of candy sent over that year and about 2 years later a friend of mine who is a medic in the Air Force was deployed to Iraq. I remembered how Necco had donated to our troops before and sent in a request to send candy to my friend who was working in a hospital filled with her wounded comrades and wounded Iraqi children. About 2 months later I got a letter in the mail from my friend talking about how she received a box full of candy and didn’t know where it came from. In the letter she also said how much the candy had meant to not only the soldiers but the children as well because candy is a luxury in Iraq at the time she was there. I never told her that it was me that sent the candy but I always tell people that Necco is such an awesome company because of their generosity to our service men and women. I hope that the new owners keep up this awesome tradition.

   1. It’s possible the new owners do not know, or the tradition slowly died due to the problems that caused the company to be sold in the first place. They might need to hear your story to help ensure that tradition continues.

3. Necco wafers are the worst in the sense of Jack in the Box Tacos. Delicously vile. Something like Chester Chicken.

4. Twinkies weren’t saved,they are a shadow of the treat they used to be and are just another in a long line of “sell the brand,screw the quality”
